Toggle2. Skill Development
A. Fundamental Skills of Passing, Catching, and Running.
Passing
1. Grip: Hold the ball with the index and middle fingers on the laces and the thumb underneath for stability.
2. Stance: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, weight distributed evenly.
3. Throwing Motion:
– Step toward the target with the opposite foot.
– Rotate the hips and shoulders into the throw.
– Use a flicking motion of the wrist to release the ball.
4. Throwing Types:
– Overhand: Standard throw for distance.
– Sidearm: Useful in tight spaces.
– Lob: For high-arching passes, allowing receivers to run under the ball.
Catching
1. Hand Position:
– For balls above the waist, use the diamond technique (thumbs and index fingers create a triangle).
– For passes below the waist, use the “basket catch” method with hands forming a cup.
2. Eyes on the Ball: Focus on tracking the ball from the thrower’s hand to your hands.
3. Absorb the Catch: Bring the ball into your body as you catch it to secure possession.
4. Body Positioning: Position your body to make the catch easier and shield the ball from defenders.
Running
1. Stance: Start in a balanced, athletic position with knees slightly bent and weight on the balls of your feet.
2. Footwork:
– Use a quick first step to accelerate.
– Maintain a low center of gravity for agility.
3. Change of Direction:
– Use quick cuts and angles to evade defenders.
– Plant the outside foot when making sharp turns.
4. Speed and Endurance: Work on sprinting techniques and building stamina to outrun opponents.
5. Ball Security: Carry the ball securely by tucking it close to your body. Use the non-dominant hand to fend off defenders.
